Mental Health Across the Autism Spectrum Counselling Service

*Please note that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic all counselling services will take place via Telepsychology (i.e., Zoom video-conferencing) until further notice. To be suitable for Telepsychology services, you must:

  • Be located in the province of Alberta;
  • Have access to a computer, laptop, tablet, or phone on which you can use the Zoom video-conferencing application (i.e., supports audio and video requirements);
  • Have access to a quiet, private space;
  • Have concerns that are appropriate to address via Telepsychology (to be assessed by the counsellor).

Our Counselling Service

Our specialized service is provided by clinicians with expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and mental health. We use evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Behaviour Modification. Therapeutic activities are modified to account for the unique learning differences that people with ASD tend to experience.

Who is it for?

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)/Autistic individuals age 10+ and their family members. In order to benefit from counselling, individuals must have the ability to talk with a counsellor about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Services Offered

We offer individual, family, and group counselling sessions that may address the following concerns:

  • Concurrent Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD);
  • Mood symptoms (e.g., anxiety, depression);
  • Emotional regulation difficulties (e.g., anger management);
  • Gender identity and other gender-related concerns;
  • Eating disturbances;
  • Body image disturbances;
  • Self-esteem concerns;
  • Social skills;
  • School/study skills (e.g., organization and planning);
  • And other concerns to be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Fees

It is important to us to ensure our services are accessible. Our fees are assessed on a sliding scale according to your household income. That means, your fees for service will be based on what you can afford.

Our OT Counselling Service

Specialized counselling with an Occupational Therapist can help address many issues that impact our day. We focus on mental health that may impact our self-care routines, participation in leisure activities or our productivity level. Occupational Therapy counselling services are provided by a clinician with expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), mental health and daily functioning.

Who is it for?

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)/Autistic individuals age 10+ and their family members. In order to benefit from counselling, individuals must have the ability to talk with a counsellor about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Services Offered

We offer individual, family, and group counselling sessions that may address the following concerns:

  • Anxiety and Stress management
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Life management skills
  • Expanding interests and leisure activities
  • Mindfulness techniques
  • Sensory needs/Sensory differences
  • Sexual Health
  • Transition to adulthood
  • And other concerns to be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Our SLP Counselling Service

Specialized counselling with a Speech-Language Pathologist can help address many issues that impact our mental well-being. We focus on mental health that may be impacted by underlying communication issues. Speech-Language Pathology counselling services are provided by a clinician with expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and mental health.

Who is it for?

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)/Autistic individuals age 10+ and their family members. In order to benefit from counselling, individuals must have the ability to talk with a counsellor about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

  • Pragmatic Language skills
  • Relationship skills
  • Emotional Regulation and Communication
  • Executive Functioning skills
