Society for Treatment of Autism (STA) runs a variety of programs in and around the Calgary area. These programs have been specifically tailored to meet the needs of people with Autism and other Pervasive Developmental Disorders.
Community Based Options - Early Intervention Program provides an individualized treatment program to meets the needs of each child and family, for children 2½ to 6 years of age. Each child within this program qualifies for Specialized Services, as outlined within the Family Support for Children with Disabilities Act, and Educational Programming, as approved by Alberta Education. This program is conducted within the family's home, community, the classroom environments at Society for Treatment of Autism as well as a variety of integrated settings (e.g., pre-school, Kindergarten/ECS, recreation programs). Within the Early Intervention Program each child is accompanied by an Early Intervention Therapist throughout their day. This program runs 12 months per year, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays and staff Professional Development days.
Community Based Options - Transition Program provides individualized treatment and consultation for children who qualify for Specialized Services, as outlined within the Family Support for Children with Disabilities Act. Children in this program typically range in age from 2 to 7, and their programs are individually designed to best meet the needs of their families. A Transition Therapist is assigned to target each child's individualized goals within their home and community settings. The focus of this program is to give each child and his/ her family the skills to implement strategies within a variety of environments.
Husky Energy Centre for Autism - Residential Treatment Program offers individualized treatment for children/ youth who are 6 to 18 years of age. The Residential Treatment Program provides a home for children within a specialized and therapeutic living environment. Treatment programming is individualized and implemented by Behavior Therapists. Needs are addressed in the areas of behaviour, communication socialization, daily living skills, and safety/domestic/pre-vocational skills. Each child participates in a day program, which typically entails attendance at a school in the community. Integration with peers is actively promoted through participation in a wide variety of community activities. During the summer months, the children in the Residential Program attend Society for Treatment of Autism's Summer Explorers day camp.
Fee for Service Therapy at STA offers Behavioral Consultation (clinically overseen by a Registered Psychologist), Speech Language Pathology consultation and limited Occupational Therapy services. Services provided include individual assessment and intervention, group interventions (e.g., social skills, prevocational groups) and community work-shops. All services are offered via treatment blocks, and are contingent upon available resources.
