Society for Treatment of Autism (STA) provides treatment programs for children and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 18. Our treatment is individualized for each child based upon his/her assessed strengths and areas of need. A multidisciplinary team of professionals composed of a Psychologist, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Teacher, and Social Worker directs each child1s program. Moreover, Early Intervention Therapists or Behavioural Therapists, who have received specialized training related to Autism and its treatment, implements all programs.

For children two to six years old, we provide two Community Based Options - Early Intervention Programs: Centre/Classroom and Home. Both are year-round day programs and use applied behaviour analysis within an activity-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum.

  • The Home Program takes place in the child's home.
  • The Centre/Classroom (Program is currently run from our newest treatment facility located at 400-94th Avenue)

Children in either program are integrated for a portion of each week with developmentally appropriate, typical peers.

For graduates of our Centre/Classroom or Home Programs, as well as other similar programs, we offer the CBO Transition Program.

The Transition Program provides consultation to the Teachers and Educational Assistants in the child's Grade One (or above) public, separate, or private school classroom, as well as direct services in the child's home. This Program is designed to help smooth the transition from intensive early intervention services to regular educational programming.

For children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 18 the Residential Treatment Program, consisting of the Margaret House Residential Treatment Centre and the Acadia House Small Group Living Home, provides a therapeutic home for individuals with autism who exhibit severe behavioural problems. Both homes provide unique, intensive 24-hour treatment and care in a small group living therapeutic environment. Day treatment programs are also available.

The Summer Explorers Day Camp provides a recreational program for residents of Margaret House, Acadia House and some community children with autism. This day camp program is run in July and August every year.
